4th of July in New York
The fireworks displays over the city are fantastic and are fabulous to see from Central Park, a rooftop bar or down at Battery Park or on a river cruise. Macys, Brooklyn Grange there are lots of displays on the 4th July.
Nathans Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest
Thousands of people gather to watch the mother of all hot dog eating contests at Coney Island in NYC. The current record is 70 hot dogs in 10 minutes which is quite a gluttonous feat!
Shakespeare in the Park
From May to June you can take in Othello and from July to August you can enjoy Twelfth Night for free. The Delacorte Theater in Central Park is where this outstanding free event takes place on numerous dates throughout the summer, this is a popular event in New York so try and get tickets as soon as you can when you know you are going to be in New York.
Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival
Head to Flushing Meadows for the annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival where up to 200 teams race along the lake. There is lots to do on dry land too, with martial arts demonstrations, music, dance performances and much more. Lots of tasty Chinese and Asian inspired cuisine to tuck into whilst you enjoy the festivities.
US Open Tennis
The biggest sporting event in New York of the summer (in terms of crowd numbers) takes place for two weeks starting at the end of August. The top tennis stars of the day will battle it out for the title in the Women’s, Men’s and Doubles events, you can find out more here, including tickets. The US Open takes place at Flushing Meadows between August 27th to September 9th.
Sporting Events
If you want to take in some American Sports whilst in New York, you can get tickets to see the New York Yankees or New York Mets if Baseball is your thing. Football is taken care of by the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC, whilst American Football fans can see the New York Giants and New York Jets. The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are the cities main basketball teams and the Rangers and Islanders are who to see if Ice Hockey is of interest.
Concerts
The world’s biggest music stars regularly do gigs and shows in New York, see who is playing when you go.
