Santa Catalina Island
To the southwest of Los Angeles is the wonderfully laid-back island of Santa Catalina. Hop on the Catalina Express from Long Beach, San Pedro or Dana Point to Avalon or Two Harbors. You could visit a spa, hire a cabana and spend the day on Descanso Beach, take a thrill ride on the Catalina Zip Line Eco Tour or whatever takes your fancy. It is just 22 miles from Los Angeles but a million miles away when it comes to the pace on the mainland. So, what awaits visitors to Santa Catalina? Clean air, clear waters, sandy beaches, fine dining and a herd of bison…yes, that’s right, bison roaming the backcountry. A great day out, pencil it in when you visit LA.
Disneyland Resort, California
Disneyland is heading towards OAP status…that’s right, unbelievably Disneyland Resort California is nearly 65 years old. It’s hard to get a figure but it is estimated that over 650 million people have visited Disneyland since 1955 and it is easy to see why, it is great! There are in fact two parks to enjoy in the same area so make sure you have plenty of time when planning your visit. There is Disneyland Park where 8 themed lands await – Fantasyland, Main Steet USA, Tomorrowland, Mickey’s Toontown, Frontierland, Critter Country, New Orleans Square and Adventureland. Take your pick from a variety of great attractions such as the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyages, Indiana Jones Adventure, Jungle Cruise, Space Mountain, Star Wars Launch Bay and many more attractions. The Disney California Adventure Park is the newer park home to 7 worlds and a plethora of attractions linked to Spider Man, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, Cars and much more. Santa Monica Pier
Iron Man did a test flight on it, Forest Gump ran down it and thousands enjoy it. Santa Monica Pier is the famous landmark at the end of Colorado Avenue. It is great, offering superb views and is one of those ‘I’ve been there’ places but it is for the whole area why it makes it on our list…not just the pier. It is free to visit and offers much beyond the brilliant views. you can enjoy the rides of Pacific Park including the iconic Ferris wheel, look round the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, soak up the sun on the beach, rent a bike and as always there are plenty of places to shop and plenty of places to grab a bite to eat. You can even try your hand on the trapeze at the trapeze school. All under the California sun.

If you are coming to LA, you have to do the touristy thing and take a Hollywood tour which visits all the places you see on TV such as Rodeo Drive, the Chinese Theater, Mulholland Drive, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills, the Hollywood Sign and of course, have a nosey at the mansions of some of the biggest music and movie stars in the world.
