There are lots of things to see and do in the great city of Sydney and a much-loved experience for visitors from the UK is a trip to the beach. There are lots of beaches in and around Sydney from secluded coves to world renowned stretches of golden sands but which one would you like to visit on your next trip to Australia.
Manly Beach can be found on the south end of the northern beaches around 17km from the centre of Sydney. There is a promenade and mall along with plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants in the vicinity so you can spend the whole day (or longer) on and around the beach. Popular with surfers, families and well just about everyone Manly should be on your list of must visit places when you visit Sydney.
A great way to get to Manly Beach is by ferry from Sydney Harbour (Sydney Ferries) – stunning views of the city and coast before spending a day at Manly – perfect!
Bondi is the most famous beach in Australia and with good reason. The golden sands of Bondi stretch for over a kilometre and are more than 100 metres wide which is good because tourists flock here in large numbers, particularly in the summer months. Around 8km from the centre, Bondi is another must see if you are in Sydney for any length of time. People watching, surfing, lounging, splashing around in the waves, casual pubs, hip cafes, shopping take your pick of the many things on offer at Bondi Beach.
Nielsen Park Beach
Great views across the bay to Sydney are a small part of the draw of this beautiful beach. Once a secluded ‘hidden secret’ it has become busier over recent years but still retains its charm and is a great place to visit if you want to get out of the city for a day. The beach combined with the park are great for a walk and it is a great spot for a family picnic. Get there early to get parking spot if you are driving there.
Bodyboarders and Surfers head to Tamarama beach to enjoy the reef break whilst the intimate beach provides a haven from the city. Although it is a small beach it does feel intimate and exclusive. As good as the waves are for surfers it can be tough for swimmers with two rips coming in so don’t get too adventurous if you are not a strong swimmer.
Bronte is a small beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. It is a family friendly beach offering great swimming for the kids (and adults). The park adjoining Bronte is a lovely place to enjoy a picnic and the area is great for a coastal walk. Throw out your towel and get settled in for a day in the sun.
There are lots of other great beaches to enjoy in Sydney. Have a look at Balmoral Beach, Shelly Beach, Milk Beach and Freshwater Beach for other great options when visiting Sydney. Remember, here at The Savvy Flyer we offer low cost flights to Sydney from the UK as well as all the other destinations in Australia.
